The original bar was open in the New York Hilton Midtown hotel, which is locat on Sixth Avenue in Manhattan. The name Ice Bar Minus5 is not symbolic – this establishment is really made entirely of ice. Ice walls, ice tables, benches and chairs, an ice bar counter, an ice chandelier and even ice shot glasses for drinks with ice.

To prevent the fragile icy interior of the Minus5 bar from melting, a constant temperature of -5 C is maintain. Upon entering, each visitor receives warm clothing in the form of Eskimo jackets and mittens, and the ice benches are cover with reindeer skins.
