What have i, a woman, experienced in the technology market

What woman has never heard one of these phrases in her daily work life? “Here comes (woman’s name) to liven up the meeting”, “Are you having one of those days?”, “Is everything okay at home?”, “She was very macho”, “The pregnancy will stunt her growth”, “She must be dating the boss”. I’ll the technology market stop here, but the amount of phrases and expressions is immense, as is the sexism in our society. However, my focus here will be on the job market, especially in technology, where I have worked for over 30 years, and on how to be successful in this area.

In IT many women still hear “

It’s great that you’re in this field even though you’re a woman ”. Unfortunately, we women are still few in this market. To be more precise, the most recent National Household belarus phone number list Sample Survey (PNAD) conducted by IBGE shows that only 20% of professionals working in this field are women. And living this reality every day, I always ask myself why this still happens today?

There are certainly many possible explanations

ranging from prejudice, sexism, historical and social contexts, to real emotional and even physical difficulties that only women experience. All of this has major consequences. One of to add them to the media plan, click the ones I felt the most was the lack of female professional role models in the IT field. During my career, I had few or none. In 1993, when I started my career, the number of women who had already walked the path before me and who I could look up to was practically zero. My performance role models were male, and this led me to end up adopting a masculine way of dealing with day-to-day work. I even had to change my tone of voice to be louder and harsher.

Without references and information

– since there was little talk about gender equality – I thought that scenario was normal and I was the one who had to adapt. Fortunately, 30 years later, we have made great strides uab directory in achieving more inclusive corporate environments. We have more successful female role models and this inspires new generations to believe that it is possible to grow in any type of sector.

How to overcome challenges?

With that in mind, here’s some good advice. If you want to work in IT, don’t give up. Study hard and don’t give up. Seek positive references and reprogram your mind. If the technology market you’re afraid, go ahead anyway. Get inspired by women who have already made it, don’t be afraid of new challenges, be adaptable and move forward one day at a time. Think that one day you too can be an example and inspiration for other girls and women.

Following this inspirational and motivational line

many people ask me how I faced and continue to face the challenges in my career. Nowadays, I see these obstacles as surmountable barriers.

Especially after I became a mother, I began to understand that any challenge can be overcome and I learned to deal with everything in my life in a more human and conscious way. One of the methods I use is to define and believe in an external purpose. Because, even on my worst days, I didn’t go to work for myself. I left home for my son, for my family.

Personally, I also believe because

I have learned in practice, that all the experiences you have lived through have a purpose. Good or bad situations, situations that make you uncomfortable or bothered, mistakes, betrayals, the only certainty I have is that this will make me stronger, will make sense in my story and that it could not be any different for my process of personal evolution. I believe that this type of mentality helps us to go through situations in a way that you survive them.

My reality today

I currently lead over a thousand employees and partners in 20 countries, who control over 90,500 kilometers of terrestrial and submarine fibers, and over 12,400 connected buildings through 2,000 network nodes. In addition to the operational side, my daily work is closely related to the development of these teams and each of the employees under my umbrella. I believe in the importance of humanized leadership through agile methodologies, and for this reason, I travel throughout Latin America to meet and interact with each of these people. This dedication not only improves individual results, but also those of the company as a whole.

I also fight every day so that our

workplace and the technology market, in particular, can be more inclusive for all people. And, even this article here is another important action to provoke reflection and give visibility to this serious, urgent and important issue.

Oh, and last but not least, when you hear any of the phrases mentioned here in the text or even those that are not said in front of you in your daily life, about various forms of violence and disrespect that you have suffered, I leave you with a reflection that I really like: do not take personally what belongs to others. And move on!
